Another example of our throw-away society. These umbrellas are from 1st avenue and 34th st. The week before I counted 54 dead umbrellas at the four corners of just this block. I'm not sure if there is an umbrella out there that could take the abuse of 1st ave and 34th st. I wish there was a better way. Maybe try a coat with a hood or try to use motor skills to rotate the umbrella into the wind? I know it's not always possible.
